Advisory Class Curriculum

Every student at Calero High School is scheduled in an Advisory class that meets with a teacher every other day during 6th period for 100 minutes.  

Students and teachers stay together for three years.  

Some of the curriculum/training offered to students during daily Advisory:


180 Degrees:  Enhancing Life One Degree at Time:  Grades 10, 11, 12

  • Three Days per Week
  • Trainers:  Advisory Teachers
  • Program Description: The 180 Degrees Program offers social emotional learning curriculum at the elementary, middle school, high school, and young adult levels. Each curriculum has been researched, designed, and developed by educators for educators.
  • Each Student Handbook focuses on character, life skills and personal enrichment education, utilizing recognized 21st Century Learning Skills in conjunction with digital age and knowledge economy. Embedded throughout each text is the company's Core Values.
  • Each handbook includes quotes, stories, poems and references to websites, books, music lyrics and other information to emphasize the main themes of the chapters. Student participation is highly interactive with involvement in projects and team building exercises. As a means of fully engaging students, technology is utilized where most appropriate.
  • Each course is conducted a minimum of 3 hours a week for the length of a school semester (54 hours) or may be extended to an entire school year. Each curriculum meets National Common Core Standards in Language Arts and includes the following program components:

Break Free From Depression Curriculum:  Grades 10 and 11

Three Day Curriculum

Trainer:  Hillary Pleasants, Social Worker, CHS

  • Program Description: “Break Free From Depression is a classroom curriculum designed by the Swensrud Depression Prevention Initiative (SDPI), based in the Boston Children’s Hospital Neighborhood Partnerships Program at Boston Children’s Hospital. The goal of this curriculum is to raise awareness of depression in adolescents. The break Free From Depression curriculum is designed to be a universal psychoeducation and skill-building curriculum for students in grades 9-12.”

Eight Day Curriculum

Trainer: Asian American Recovery Services (AARS)

  • Program Description:  AARS HealthRight 360 will provide educational presentations and workshops on alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs (ATOD) to help the students of Calero High School gain a better understanding about the physical and psychological effects of substance use. Curriculum will focus on topics ranging from ATOD, Stages of Change, Laws & consequences of ATOD, Behavior Change, and Goal Setting.
